LiquidCommerce explained: ReserveBar's alcohol commerce stack

Old rule: Alcohol checkout has to live in an iFrame.Native checkout components now run on your own site.

What LiquidCommerce is in 2026: ReserveBar's APIs, SDK and Elements for alcohol brand sites, how orders reach licensed retailers, and the pros and cons.

Facts checked: 5 min read

LiquidCommerce is the name ReserveBar uses for its software. It is the stack behind ReserveBar.com and Minibar Delivery, packaged so a brand can sell on its own website. This guide explains what it is today, how it works and where it fits, as of November 2026.

What LiquidCommerce is today

There is a lot of confusion about the name. Here is what the primary sources say:

  • It belongs to ReserveBar. ReserveBar’s white-label page presents LiquidCommerce as the technology and retail network that powers ReserveBar and Minibar Delivery, offered to brands for their own sites.
  • It is still ReserveBar’s after the 2026 merger. On March 26, 2026, ReserveBar and AccelPay announced a merger under a new parent company. The announcement says ReserveBar keeps running its marketplaces and its LiquidCommerce software. AccelPay keeps running its own ecommerce and payments platform.
  • It is a developer product. The docs at docs.liquidcommerce.cloud describe “enterprise-grade API Services for the beverage alcohol industry”. The API runs on api.liquidcommerce.cloud, and the API collection sits in a ReserveBar engineering workspace.

We found no public sign of LiquidCommerce as a stand-alone company. If you read older articles that treat it as separate, treat them with care. The two brands have overlapped for years, and the merger adds a third name, AccelPay, into the same group.

The three building blocks

1. Elements (v2)

Elements is the fastest way in. It is a set of web components:

  • Product: product detail and add to cart.
  • Address: delivery location and availability for that address.
  • Cart: a slide-out cart drawer with promo codes.
  • Checkout: a full checkout, as a drawer or a hosted page.

You add Elements with one script tag and a few data- attributes, or through the @liquidcommerce/elements-sdk npm package. The docs say it “works with plain HTML or any framework”. There are actions you can call from your own code, events you can listen to, theming and accessibility guidance.

Version 2 launched in September 2025. ReserveBar’s page lists the main changes: a visual commerce builder with live preview, native integration in your page (“No More iFrames”), a personalization engine and a customizable native checkout. In plain words, the checkout now looks and loads like part of your site instead of a box from someone else’s.

2. Cloud SDK and APIs

For a fully custom storefront, there is a Node.js SDK and a web script on top of the APIs. The docs cover:

  • Address: autocomplete and details, tuned for alcohol delivery.
  • Catalog: search, and availability by address.
  • Cart and Checkout: create a cart, prepare checkout, complete checkout.
  • Users: sessions, saved addresses, saved payment methods, data deletion.
  • Payments: an embeddable payment element. Processing runs on Stripe, with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Amazon Pay.
  • Orders: fetch and list orders, plus webhooks for order events.
  • AI Bartender API: listed in the docs as beta.

All prices in the API are in cents. Staging and production environments are separate.

3. The retailer network

The software is only half the product. The other half is the licensed retailers who hold stock and fulfill orders. ReserveBar says the network has 3,500+ licensed retailers across the US.

In the API, each retailer has one or more fulfillments. A fulfillment is either:

  • shipping: packed and shipped by carrier, with shipping fees and minimums, or
  • on-demand: local delivery, for example within the hour, with delivery fees and hours.

Each fulfillment also says whether it can engrave, accept promos or gift cards, and which product types it allows.

How an order flows

  1. The shopper enters an address on the brand’s site.
  2. The availability API checks which retailers can serve that address with that product, and how.
  3. The cart can hold items from more than one retailer. The docs list multi-retailer support.
  4. The shopper pays in the LiquidCommerce checkout on the brand’s site.
  5. A licensed retailer accepts and fulfills the order. On ReserveBar’s own terms, an order is only accepted when the retailer ships it, and title passes from the retailer to the buyer at the store.
  6. Order events go back to the brand through webhooks.

Who is the seller of record

The seller of record is the business that legally makes the sale, holds the license and collects tax. With LiquidCommerce, that is the licensed retailer, not the brand and not ReserveBar. This is how the model fits the US three-tier system, where producers sell to wholesalers, wholesalers to retailers, and only retailers sell to consumers.

Not legal advice. Rules differ by state. Confirm your setup with a beverage alcohol lawyer or compliance provider.

Pros

  • Native checkout. Since Elements v2, there is no iFrame. That helps design, speed and analytics.
  • Two speeds of build. Drop in Elements for a fast launch, or go fully custom on the SDK.
  • Real documentation. Public docs, typed objects, webhooks and a staging environment. Not every alcohol checkout publishes this much.
  • Spirits features. Presales with reserved stock, engraving, gift cards, bundles, and a single checkout for alcohol plus merchandise.
  • Network and on-demand. The same retailer network as ReserveBar.com, with same-day options in some areas.

Cons

  • Pricing is quote-only. No public rate card for brands.
  • Distribution decides reach. If network retailers cannot get your product through wholesalers, those addresses show as unavailable.
  • Not Shopify-native. It works on a Shopify theme as components, but alcohol orders do not run through Shopify checkout. Your Shopify reports will not show those orders unless you sync them.
  • Data terms vary. Ask what customer and order data you receive and how you may use it.
  • A moving target. The merger with AccelPay is months old. The line between LiquidCommerce and AccelPay’s Shopify-native tools may shift.

When LiquidCommerce is a good fit

  • You are a premium or luxury spirits brand with solid US distribution.
  • You want your own branded site, not just a marketplace listing.
  • You care about presales, engraving or gifting.
  • You have, or can hire, developers who can work with an SDK and webhooks.

It is a weaker fit if you are a small brand with little distribution, or if you want everything to live inside Shopify’s admin.

How we work with it

We are a ReserveBar partner. We build brand storefronts on ReserveBar’s storefront SDK for spirits brands such as Casa Dragones. If you want a LiquidCommerce-powered site built around your brand, write to us at falserules.com/#contact.

Questions

Is LiquidCommerce a separate company from ReserveBar?

No. LiquidCommerce is ReserveBar's software business. The March 2026 ReserveBar and AccelPay merger announcement lists LiquidCommerce as part of what ReserveBar keeps running, next to ReserveBar.com and Minibar Delivery.

What is LiquidCommerce Elements?

Elements is a set of web components for product, address, cart and checkout. You add it to any website with a script tag or an npm package. Version 2, launched in September 2025, runs natively in your page instead of in an iFrame and adds a visual editor.

Who is the seller of record on a LiquidCommerce-powered site?

A licensed retailer in ReserveBar's network. LiquidCommerce routes the order to a retailer that can serve the shopper's address. That retailer accepts, fulfills and legally makes the sale. The brand is not the seller.

Does LiquidCommerce work with Shopify?

The docs say Elements works on any website, in plain HTML or any framework, so it can be added to a Shopify theme as scripts and components. There is no official Shopify app for LiquidCommerce in the docs. Alcohol checkout runs through LiquidCommerce, not Shopify checkout.

How much does LiquidCommerce cost?

Pricing is not published. ReserveBar quotes it per brand. At the API level, each retailer fulfillment can carry delivery, shipping, engraving and platform fees, which are shown to the shopper at checkout.
